11:50 pm - Transformers
|

I've been working on this model for the past month or so in collaboration with A.B. Cruz, based off one of his designs. This is still very much a work in progress since making it transform without cheating is pretty tedious. Transforming models take planning and headaches. If you're interested in turnarounds of the model in this current state, they can be found here:
-GTR-R34 -Robot Mode
Hopefully after Starcraft 2 eventually ships I'll have more time to make other models and perhaps some fun little animated shorts. But for now testing the waters with this model will do. This design is a nice medium between Gundam and my 80's obsessions.

Real fast. I like the animation in the Esurance commercials. Wildbrain does good stuff:

Used a picture of a girl giving a guy a footjob for reference. I don't know why i had that picture saved on my machine, but it turned out to be useful.

10:06 pm - Starcraft 2 art update!
|

Today we updated the official forums with QA batch 49. The balance changes ALOT on this game as the designers dial things in, but they also included an art update of RECENT ART which I'm stoked to share. This is keen because usually things have been in the game for months/years before being exposed to the public. You guys are out of the loop.

Pencils are for suckers! This sketch is all about breaking the rules! A real rebel does whatever they want. "Renegade", go ahead and give me that nickname, I deserve it. ~heh~ Anyways, zoom in right here. I just scaled her to match the Ninja Turtle drawings for toots and giggles.
Things are so crazy this week I might as well wear a diaper cause I could crap my pants out at any second. It already hurts my stomach trying to hold in all the raw power.

Just got around to scanning these absurd things. Every Monday we do an art review meeting to see what was acomplished the previous week. Here is what my crappy attention span had me doing instead of paying attention:
( Sketch Poop 08, yes. )

Drums of War is out! Couple cards I did for the Medallion of the Horde & Medallion of the Alliance. Otherwise I've been crunching my balls off on SC2.

You make me laugh.
I need to make some Development Hell posts that I've been neglecting. In the meantime here are my contributions to "the Hunt for Illidan" card set:
Teron Gorefiend (rock on oldschool Warcraft 2 heroes!)

And Fryda posed for this Undead Priest:

More news in a later-bit.

9:29 pm - Tauren Space Marine!
|
Art post! 3d Art post what? Yes, believe it!

The Tauren Space Marine from the Starcraft 2 April Fool's update! When Samwise did a concept of the Level 70 Elite Tauren Chieftan for Blizzcon 8+ months ago (I think), I told him we had to put in in Starcraft 2. Cards, commuting, moving, crunch, basically life in general kept this model a work in progress until about 2 weeks ago. I'd been working on it in my free time and with the 1st of April coming up I got the go ahead to work on this bad boy full-time and get him finished. Allen Dilling threw in a quick effect pass and Jay Hathaway animated him in a couple days. He actually shares all the same animations as the marine besides needing the extra attention for the tail and face. The texture is mostly from scrach with a few pieces barrowed from the current in-game marine such as the gun. SC2's Art Producer Kaeo put it in the game with the over the top attack power and other details such as audio from the Warcraft 3 Tauren. This was a blast to work on and probably the first real geek-out piece of fan art I've done since getting hired a couple years now (eep!).
Hello! This is Fryda! I am putting my clothes away! I have SO MANY SHOES OMGGGGGGG. Phill just flicked my boob with a hair clip from the 80's. I am no longer pleased.
Yes... back onto business.

11:35 pm - Work Shitzers!
|
Kinda. Between renders and in the spare time here and there I'm trying to sketch more: ( A few more here... )Work is going good. Blizzard moved onto a campus Pixar-style. I'm getting ready for Mustache March, Fryda hates the progress so far, but who the hell cares what she has to say about it. Mad Madness from Crazytown. A good deal of the Starcraft assets we're working on are final FINAL final versions (maybe) that we've decided will most definitely make it to the release. The amount of polish going into even the smallest unit blows my mind. Compared to previous projects I've worked on where the speed was breakneck and when something was done once it was done for good, it feels strange to invest so much time in one art asset. Tough break Kirby:

11:08 pm - WoW Card - Demonic Fury!
|
A new Raid deck was released last month for the WoW trading card game, Magtheridon's Lair! Raid decks are fun because they're a bit more focused around a central theme and the deck overall looks much more cohesive once complete. Magtheridon was an appealing central character and many of the iterations done by the other artist did nothing shy of kicking maximum asses.

Progress pictures under the cut! Many of the prelim sketches for this I posted in the year-end sketch poop if you missed it.

There you go. This card also features the return of Boarguts, who was last seen around level 40 in the purely crap Imperial Plate armor set. When I did the Rise to the Challenge artwork I had to shave off his beard and the mohawk wasn't reading too well either. I don't have the armor he's wearing in the artwork, but if I did I wouldn't have time to do these anymore. Curses.

11:37 pm - Darth Vader feels blue.
|
Olivia and I always used to joke that the respirator built into Darth Vader's mask was actually a harmonica. Youtube made our dreams come true. This video has been floating around for a while but I keep coming back to it, randomly. What that sentence means is, it is inappropriate to howl, bellow, and make accurate impressions of Darth Vader while loving your girlfriend. "Loving" is up for interpretation. But this video is funny (to me atleast). It makes me crap my pants from laughter. It makes me wet other people's beds.

6:51 pm - WoW Trading Card - Gurok the Usurper
|
Another WoW card! This latest entry has been released recently with the March of the Legion set. Gurok the Usurper is a boss creature you summon and kill for his interference against another crystal giant Gordawg. When you bring back Gurok's head, Gordawg eats it. Which I can only respect and admire.

This card was fun as hell. No armor, no racial protocols dictating appearance. Just a huge rock giant stomping around! I collaborated on this card with MissMonster whom I'm a huge fan of as well. Not much else to say besides that. Sketches and art stages ahoy!

This card was started sometime around April this year. The funny thing about Gurok is that the card was used as a give-away early promotional card before the entire deck was released. I just went on a regular visit to my local comic shop and there was a standee with the art on it. Trip out! I guess that's all I have to say about it.

8:31 pm - JobGoblin pin-up
|
JobGoblin pin-up #2!

When you start working late into the night on things like this you may find your critical nature fading away and progress being made much more rapidly. Maybe beer isn't brain food? The next day you look at it with fresh eyes to realize that things are worse than they seem! You might have been cutting corners or just lowering your standards to up your average again! For shame! Curse you beer!
Blood! Very fun, they appear to bleed Knotts Berry Farm consistency. Ketch (the goblin doing the stabbing) doesn't look right in the face, and Skib's (the magical one) spell effect doesn't have a buzz-saw look taking off the arm. I apologize! It never looked right the way I tried to draw it along with Brian F's deadlines. FEH. The lighting was experimental fun and my ability to only draw backgrounds consisting of rocky rock holds true. A special thanks goes out to Andy for letting me postpone our man-date to next week. Brace yourself Goat Hill. "Brace" I said!
In other news... Comic Con was great! MissMonster is good people to hang out with and follow around the showroom floor. The smell of hot evaporating nerds has only recently been washed free of my clothes finally. The follow-up Blizzcon convention went well also. The crunch-time ended and the world was shown the Terran forces on schedule. The Thor is a year old and I'm aching to redo him. Fryda WON THIRD PRIZE in the dance contest and we meet Leeroy Jenkins. Hot Dog.
Recently I have reached level 25. A hot-tub full of women means nothing if you spill your 32 ounce Miller High Life. I see nipples!

That's all for you update! FEH!

11:21 pm - Ridley
|
Ridley from the Metroid games is a lovable dehydrated beast from outer space. I started the game series long after the Super Nintendo was obsolete but Super Metroid remains to be one of the best designed games in my recollection. Even though games like God of War have translated some of that magic from the 16 bit era into the present day Metroid still occupies invaluable brain cells which would be better put to use remembering my girlfriend's phone numbers (I apologize Fri). Thanks to cell phone technology I can forfeit a measly ten digits and daydream about grand boss encounters during the downtime at work. Sketches produced somehow resulted in a loathsome undertaking which I've decided to excommunicate from my hard drive tonight.
Sadly I've reworked this piece 500 times and I'm letting it go. It has been a WIP for atleast a couple months now between comissions, Korea, Vegas, and all other forms of slacking. Holy crap. Fryda is playing Diablo 1. BED. SLEEP. Sleep good. FACT - On March 21, 2006, 3D Realms CEO Scott Miller stated that when Duke Nukem Forever was finished, 3D Realms would begin work on a sequel. FICTION - John told his little brother that sea otters aren't mammals, but fish, even though John himself was a marine biologist and knew otherwise. John simply wanted to see his little brother fail his class report, in order to teach him to begin projects early, which help him develop skills necessary to succeed in life. What a prick.
